FREED IN CHRIST

Freed in Christ: Breaking the Chains of Ancestral Covenants and Curses

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)

In many cultures, especially across Africa and parts of Asia, people grow up with a deep awareness of ancestral covenants—spiritual agreements made by forefathers—and generational curses believed to affect their lives negatively. These covenants often carry fear, limitations, and cycles of failure, sickness, or bondage. But the good news of the Gospel is this: when you are in Christ, you are no longer bound by the past.

1. Christ Breaks Every Yoke

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ did not just provide salvation for our souls—it broke the power of every spiritual bondage. According to Galatians 3:13, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” That means every generational curse, spoken word, or ancestral tie is rendered powerless the moment you surrender to Jesus.

2. A New Identity in Christ

Being in Christ gives you a new identity. You are no longer just a descendant of your earthly lineage; you become a child of God. The spiritual DNA changes. Colossians 1:13 says, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” You’re no longer subject to the dominion of darkness but walk in the authority and light of Christ.

3. No Agreement with Darkness

Many ancestral covenants were made through idolatry, occultism, or blood rituals. But 2 Corinthians 6:14 makes it clear: “What fellowship has light with darkness?” Once you are in Christ, you are separated from those evil altars. Their claims over your life are nullified by the blood of Jesus.

4. The Blood of Jesus Speaks Better Things

Hebrews 12:24 tells us that the blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel. Ancestral blood covenants may have been sealed in the past, but the blood of Jesus has eternal power to silence every voice that cries against you.

5. You Must Walk in This Truth

Many believers still suffer under ancestral influences not because Christ hasn’t set them free, but because they do not know or walk in the truth. Jesus said in John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Freedom begins with revelation and is sustained through faith and spiritual discipline.

Conclusion

Your freedom in Christ is complete and irreversible. No ancestral curse or covenant has authority over you when you are covered by the blood of Jesus. You are a new creation, born of God, sealed with the Holy Spirit, and destined for glory. Walk in that freedom, reject fear, and declare boldly: “I am free indeed!”
